Today, we’re launching our third video blog for StopIranWar.com. I’m joined by Iraq war veteran Jon Soltz of VoteVets.org and Clark Community blogger Reg to discuss how President Bush’s get tough policy with Iran is undermining the security of our most reliable ally in the region, Israel.
Watch today’s video blog to understand why George Bush’s policy of confronting Iran hurts the Israelis, our strongest allies in this volatile region.

This is a very important call to stop a nuclear catastrophe before it starts. Support WesPAC’s and the VoteVets group’s call to stop a war in Iran.
believe iy i9s for the best of Iranians and all people in middle east to anhilite a regime like Iranian Goverment. this state not only misuses relogion and religious sentiment of Iranian further more it is engaged to corrupting intellectual movemnts in India, Gulf Countries and Lebanon also. Thus eliminating this regime is not bad idea however I disagrre with any military action and enforcement which can cause any sense of abuse to dignity of human beings.
My American friends, have you asked from yourself why does a country like Pakistan have nuclear power with U.S.A approval although it is much vulnerable to terrorism and fundamentalism? think about it. Isreal may can be is a possible hint for you any wqay God bless whoever attempts for peace and human dignity.
Great, informative video guys! I’m happy to pass it along.
btw, was that last repetition of www.stopiranwar.com a direct plea to Jr? “dubya, dubya, dubya - STOP IRAN WAR!!!! .com”
I hope he’s paying close attention to the consequences of warfare in Iran that you two have outlined here. It’s not productive for the troops in Iraq, for US citizens here or abroad, or for the Middle East in general.
Thank you for once again putting the good of our country & our troops first, General Clark. I also deeply appreciate the efforts of VoteVets.org. It really feels like we’re spinning straight into hell with no way out sometimes, watching this admin sink deeper & deeper into conflict, debt & disaster.
Both presenters are of the mind to use force to provide solutions to these problems in the Middle East. Mr. Clark definitely shows his military colors in his animated face when taking about the bombing of Iran. Does he not know that this bombing will cause civilian deaths, and make the Ayatollahs more powerful? I can’t say about Mr. Stolz; his face is very impassive in talking about the problems.
I have problem with the statement,
“That is what worries me. With every passing day that the administration won’t talk to Iran, we come closer to an Iranian nuclear weapon.”
Iran is years away from any weapons program. They don’t have the infrastructure in place, the uranium that has been processed is under 5% (nuclear fuel grade).
If they wanted a bomb, they could probably buy the weapons grade material from one of the old Soviet republics where thanks to GWB, the program to help safeguard their weapons was de-funded. Rusty chains and drunken guards are not my idea of containment.
This whole idea of an Iranian weapons program being imminent is bogus.
The whole context of the argument by the Bushies is that they are developing an internal process to produce one which is close to fruition. This is wrong.
I agree we should talk to them. As Wes said in his interview with Amy Goodman,
“I would send a high-level diplomatic team into the region right now. I’d have no-holds-barred and no-preconditioned discussion with Iran and Syria. And I would let it be known that I’ve got in my bag all the tricks, including putting another 50,000 troops in Iraq and pulling all 150,000 troops out. And we’re going to reach an agreement on a statement of principles that brings stability and peace and order to the region. So let’s just sit down and start doing it. Now, that could be done with the right administrative leadership. It just hasn’t been done.”
ISIS on line has all the scoop on all things nuclear, including India, Pakistan and N. Korea.
…This is certainly the most important global issue “on the table” as dick would say, today. This is a great site! However, also remember to contact your senators, and reps about this. Demand congressional oversight before Bush could attack Iran! Bush is no known for restraining himself militarily, even under suggestion. Congress can make it more than just a suggestion.

General,
I’d love your thoughts on Iran attending the international conference on Iraq that will be held in Baghdad on Saturday 3/10/2007.

I truly appreciate the effort here, and I hope this catastrophe can be averted. For the sake of our brave troops in the field, and for the sake of the approximately one billion people downwind of our planned “tactical nuclear” strikes. Thank you General Clark, and Thank you Mr. Stoltz.
I agree that Iran, or any other country adding nuclear arms to its’ arsenal would have terrible results, but I have yet to be convinced by credible evidence that such a program exists within Iran, or that the EFP’s alleged to come from Iran do so with State sponsorship. The evidence currently on display indicates that it is my own country which is choosing to abrogate the NNPT, not Iran, and is the political will did not exist for such a weapon in Iran before, all of this administrations saber-rattling may be the one thing that catalyzes such a will.
So, what do we do then? Engage the Iranians directly as General clark suggests. Many overtures have been made in our direction from theirs, and the hand of peace should once again be extended from the United States of America. As the world’s greatest power, we can truly help bring peace to the world, but peace can never, never, NEVER come from the barrel of a gun, or the searing heat and radioactive fallout of a “low-yield” nuclear weapon.
Dear Mr Clark and Soltz,
I noticed that Mr Soltz claims that the weapons are coming from Iran. This administration has been saying the same thing to justify attacking Iran. It seems that many experts question whether these weapons are truly coming from the Iranian government, or perhaps some rogue faction, or just whether any significant part of them is truly coming from them. Your comment would seem to really add support to those who want to attack Iran. If you believe this is true, we need to hear your evidence. So far, it seems this administration has again shown little proof to support that claim. I don’t doubt that this may be real, but what is your proof? Since there are reputed to be many rogue and corrupt factions operating with Iranian made equipment, I suppose that even I, or anyone with enough money, could probably buy some of their weapons, or at least some of the hardware to make an “Iranian made weapon”. Even our own country supplies foreign made weapons, such as AK47s to other foreign militants. How do you know who is actually brokering these weapons from whom?
Thank you for your bravery in taking a stand and encouraging discussion about this world important situation.
Wes is right to call for dialogue. The Bush foreign policy of bullying has long failed. Now the world sees the US as nothing more than a bully. Bush squandered US goodwill, one of our greatest assets.
Good for Wes to call for dialogue. Iran’s national self-image is of a country that stands up to bullies. 50 years of sanctions and threats haven’t improved things in Cuba, they won’t improve things in Iran either.
In 1953, the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran, Mossadegh was overthrown in a well-documented CIA coup because he didn’t give in to US and British demands for oil.
In 1979 his image became the rallying cry for the revolution that resulted in an Islamic government.
Every bullying and covert tactic taken by the US against Iran has had ultimately catastrophic results. And now it could be nuclear.
It is time to talk to our enemy. And, perhaps, in showing a little respect to our enemy, our enemy will no longer be an enemy.
Somehow Iraq mess has to laid at the feet of the current administration, including an assigning of accountability for stopping this tragic miscalculation from dragging the world toward destruction. Iran clearly has it loonies, but Cheney, Wolfowitz and Bush formed a trio of lunacy that parallels Middle East nut cases.
I am glad that there is now another voice to power. The VSO’s like the Legion are too slow and too connected to the right, which has been mostly wrong on everything that concerns the national security of this nation. I think a war tax is long overdue and I would start with a really big tax on those “merchants of war” who linger in the shadows just waiting to cash in on the blood of the innocents. This is all so Byzantine.
BOHICA
General Clark was asked about this last week. Here’s the exchange:
“Gentleman in Front: First of all, General, thank you very much for playing the leadership role in the struggle to prevent war with Iraq. We appreciate it. Secondly, with regards to my question, you mentioned that you didn’t want to see manipulation through fear, but through honest dialog. In line with that, my question to you is: In light of the fact that the IAEA’s physical evidence has shown that all the Iranian uranium examined so far has been enriched only to the 5% level, suitable only for nuclear power, why is it that we haven’t heard more Democratic leaders standing up and saying this droning about Iran being 45 minutes away to a year away from nuclear weapons is a lie like the lies they sold us to drum us into war with Iraq?
GENERAL WESLEY CLARK: Well, because the reason I haven’t said that is because I don’t know that that’s true. I have, I, I, I knew pretty much what the intelligence was on Iraq, because I had been doing the bombing. And what we said in Iraq is that we couldn’t account for 25 Scuds, a couple of tons of material that could’ve made PX and some, some feed stock for bio weapons. We weren’t positive he’d destroyed all his chemical weapons, but the rest of it was all hype, and the administration hyped it. In Iran, the truth is that most people don’t know, but the IAEA believes that information contained on a computer that was captured and the Iranians refused to discuss is damaging and presents a strong if indirect evidence that they’re seeking nuclear weapons. They’re talking about how to mold uranium metal and talking about digging tunnels for testing and you don’t test for low power. They’re talking about setting up cascades of 1,000 to 3,000 centrifuges. You don’t need that for, for LEU. You only need it for the highly-enriched uranium. And so, the fact that these documents were on a computer, that the computer’s been through many different agencies, it’s believed to be genuine, that the Iranians won’t come back and discuss these with the IAEA and refute them. All of that gives us serious cause for concern, and I’ve said from the beginning that if you’re ever going to look at a nation that was potentially troubled, it’s Iran. Now, it just so happens that we’ve isolated Iran for 30 years. I think as a matter of policy, it’s time for them to come in from the cold, and it’s time for us to talk to them. And if I had my way, I would do a preemptive diplomatic strike on Iran.
(laughter and applause)
But I also have to tell you that I, I do think that we have to draw a pretty hard line on nuclear nonproliferation, and we don’t want an Iranian nuclear weapon out there. So, I’ve refused to take the military option off the table. I just have said that if an administration won’t talk first, then I can’t, I can’t support whatever action they’re taking. And so, what we’ve done on stopIranWar.com is we’ve put out the evidence there, and we’ve asked for you to write in to your Senators and Representatives and demand that this administration TALK to our potential adversary directly and without preconditions. That’s the requirement to move forward.”
Gen Clark, why do you want to negotiate with Terrorist in Iran. These Ayatollahs who are funding all baby killers in the Gulf. These are the same fanatics who will Kill Americans at drop of Dime are you sure you serve in our Military? I truly do not want to be so harsh, but you really have no idea about these Ayatollahs at all, ask any Iranians and they will give you a mouth full! Let the President do his Job!!!!!!!!!!
I am Jewish, as is Mr. Soltz. I don’t know why he is calling himself a “Jewish-American.” I’ve never heard of a Baptist-American, a Methodist-American or a Catholic-American. He is American PERIOD.
AIPAC seems to have fully brainwashed Wes and others here.
I don’t see how Israel is our most important ally.
Is it because they have a nuclear arsenal? Is it because of all the money they dump into our domestic elections?
Is it because of the stranglehold they have on our foreign policy, and have had for fifty years?
How about this: Israel gets the hell out of ALL occupied territories immediately.
Then, and only then, will anything resembling a “peace plan” be possible.
EVERY single one of our middle-east “enemies” has said this time and time again. And yet noone seems to be paying any attention to it.
Hillary is going to do nothing but continue the AIPAC way, and the middle-east could for the rest of our lifetimes, be under the thumb of these rulers.
What a total sham this all is.
Major General Wesley Clark took me into his command as an active duty Chaplain (MAJ) in July 1993. As his 1stt Cavalry Division Memorial Chapel Manager, I got to know him and Gert well and to discover his integrity, concern for everyone in the Division. In the years since then, reading and listening to his ideas, I have appeciated his brilliance and diplomatic approach to world problems. It is no surprise that he has the respect of world leaders ever since his command of NATO Forces in the former Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Serbia during the conflict there. His ideas for diplomacy and his restraint on the use of military force are correct. Now it is up to the people of the United States and our Congress to hold President Bush and his entire Administration accountable and if possible to remove that Administration from power immediately for its dishonesty and ineptitude. And the Democratic Party needs to dismiss other candidates and to endorse Wes Clark as its only candidate for President. If the Democrats want to win the Presidency and carry more Democrats into our Congress, the Party needs to endorse and support Wes Clark now! using all its resources for the one candidate who can win and lead our nation toward peace through diplomacy, with intellect and integrity.

Nice looking website
I’m putting that video on my blog right now!
